The Sixth Day

Often, the sixth day of creation is summarized simply as the day G!d created land animals and people. However, when I studied the text, I noticed that a significant portion of this day’s description is devoted to G!d giving humanity dominion over the fish, birds, and animals. In our modern world, we do indeed have incredible dominion over much of the natural world. In this piece, I chose to represent humanity with a slightly sinister crown which contains and restricts the creatures of the land, air and water. Can you find all of the animals? There are 29 individual creatures (including 9 beetles). (See the complete list of animals.)

The text around the outside is from Genesis 1:26 and translates as “And G!d said: ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.’”

In the final framed piece, the bronze-colored background paper is properly aligned; I just don’t have a photo of it yet.
