For this ketubah, the client specified it should have a dragon! A western dragon. In many of the inspiration images she sent me, there was also a castle, so I had to put in a castle. Because it’s a ketubah, there had to be plenty of space for the text (hand-calligraphed by Noam Sienna) so the final piece turned out to be very large. I also got some special hand-made paper to be the purple behind the papercut. I didn’t want the papercut (white paper) overlaid directly onto the text (just off-white paper) so the purple layer was necessary to create a bit of a border between them. When it’s framed, the color behind the purple will be the deep blue of a night sky.
The text in the bottom corners, supplied by the couple, reads This is my love, and This is my partner. The flags contain the couple’s Hebrew names, and the word “wedding.”
